Guy Fawkes
Today the 5th of November, a day like no other that is named guy fawkes that embarks of the capturing of the man himself! Guy Fawkes also know as Guido Fawkes was born and educated in York,England. His father died when Guy Fawkes was eight years old, after that happened his mother remarried a recusant Catholic. Guy Fawkes converted to Catholicism and left for the continent, where he fought in the Eighty Years, War. He later met Thomas Wintour, with whom he returned to England.Wintour introduced Guy Fawkes to Robert Catesby, who planned to assassinate King James~1 and restore a Catholic monarch to the throne. The plotters leased an undercroft beneath the House of Lords, and Fawkes was placed in charge of the gunpowder they stockpiled there. Prompted by the receipt of an anonymous letter, the authorities searched Westminster Palace during the early hours of 5 November, and found Guy Fawkes guarding the explosives. Over the next few days he was questioned and tortured, eventually he confessed. Immediately before his execution on 31 January! To this day we have lit fireworks in the sky since 5th November 1605.

ReplyDeleteI am not sure about some of the facts and information that you have presented in this report - there are some really tricky concepts and ideas - 'recusant' and 'undercroft' are two that I can see - I don't even know what they mean, would you be able to explain them?
